Detail:
This is a training that essentially takes participants on a journey of what it is like to go through the care system and the challenges involved in that. I share in depth about my struggles and the build-up to entering care. I share strategies that my foster family put in place to mange some of my behaviours and I share with participants what the ‘turning point’ was for me that allowed me to achieve academically and make it to university. The journey was not easy, and it was very bumpy along the way but, with the right foundation, I made it. This training is measured by several of the national minimum and TSD Standards.
About the trainer
Nick spent 9 years in the care system having entered it because of abuse, neglect, and domestic violence. He grew up around drugs, violence, and overall chaos. He entered the ‘system’ scared, angry and confused, with very little trust in adults and confidence in himself. Nick was told that he would never achieve academically and was written off before given an opportunity to provide and find himself. He was told he would be just another ‘statistic’ and a number on a spreadsheet.
Despite the adversity he suffered, he didn’t become a ‘statistic’ and a number on a spreadsheet. He became so much more than that. Now many years older he’s here to share his story and help you see the world of the care system “Through the Kid’s Eyes”.
