Schools: Teaching multiplication facts for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check

This course will help Year 4 teachers prepare their pupils for the multiplication tables check (MTC) that is a statutory assessment for all pupils in Year 4.  
 
Whether your pupils are able to recall the facts already, or if they are struggling with ‘remembering’ facts such as 7 x 8, this course will provide guidance for both strengthening understanding of multiplication facts and helping pupils achieve fluency in their recall. 
 
This course is based on Baroody’s three phases of development to achieve fluency in recall of facts and will provide a clear explanation of why these three phases are important in pupils’ development. It will provide alternative approaches to the teaching of multiplication facts. 
 
We will look at the process for administering the MTC in June and other aspects such as how to prepare, access arrangements and results.
